Re: 306 HDI D-Turbo
I get frustrated because I'm always getting stuck in traffic on the way to and from uni, and am constantly doing short journeys, eats up my fuel

Re: 306 HDI D-Turbo
Am tempted to do my wheels like this:
Instead of the current all white:
It's blooming hard getting the dragon done tidy, any ideas will be appreciated!
Am thinking touch up pen or small paint brush then smooth down if there's brush lines?

Re: 306 HDI D-Turbo
Updates:
Haven't done one for a while so quite a few things in here, as always comments welcome!
Upper and lower strut brace painted cherry red (previous owner had them silver and black) and fitted, and spec 2's all round.
No pics of braces yet sorry (want to tidy things up first ).
Fitted 6 bar oil spring:
And Oil and filter, Fuchs Titan Race Pro S 5W-40, branded filter(can't remember which one though) at the same time.
Braided Brake hoses fitted to the front:
New gear linkages:
Ordered some, got a spare from scrappy whilst waiting for postie, but was given the wrong one, so some (fairly shoddy) welding was req'd with my arc welder!
Nice new likages:
Refurb'd wheel I did a while back:
Powerflex lower engine mount (need to get some harder upper + box ones now, probs Baker BM Group N's):
Solid Alloy bottom pulley:
Fitted new lifters:
And an oil change, 5w40 fully synth again, and a pug filter.
Pics for those interested.
Oh and I got "clamped" lol
Was a few months back, but made me laugh.

Re: 306 HDI D-Turbo
this is the advice i was given when i was looking at buying one for my hdi
you need a ratcheted alternator pulley! otherwise it'll eat the belt rapidly!
the alternator's spinning part is too heavy and if the engine stops (so as the crank and crank pulley and the belt) the alternator pulley slips and for a little amount of time it keeps "spinning" on the aux belt (as the wrap angle and the amount of torque which could be transfered was designed with a two piece rubberised crank pulley in mind )
A decent autoelectrician shop could give you such ratcheted pulley off the shelf (they'll give you a pulley and a small spacer which moves the new pulley in position so the belt will remain linear - but I think they'll need your alternator or at least it's part number to give you the correct pulley and spacer.

Re: 306 HDI D-Turbo
That makes sense, I have a spare alternator I think, unless I chucked it, so I'll have a look, be easier to get one with the alternator off the car cheers I'll look into it

Good progress, just out of interest, why did you change the lifters?

Thanks
They were tapping, and couldn't hold the valves open fully under the high boost/fuel at higher rpm.

Re: 306 HDI D-Turbo
Small update, just before we had the snow at the start of December, this happened to one of my rockers:
So we put a new one in in the snow, went for MOT the next day, passed 1st time.
All sorted now

Here's a link to a video of the noise, you'll know when/if one goes!

Just remember to stop straight away, to avoid frying the piston/valves. I have a good tow rope and enough torqz to pull you so give me a bell if you ever get stuck!

Warlord had one go just a day or two after mine, Chris (Dum Dum) had one go on his HDi in standard form, and Chris (bell306td) had one go too.
