selling one of the gtis

bit more history: engine is claimed to be 84k, previous owner replaced the gauges with higher mileage ones, now i'm not too sure how true this is (he has a reciept for the gauges but seemed a bit edgy on the subject) so have treated it as a higher mileage engine. Currently has a slight misfire under high load at low revs (replaced the coils, water temp sensor and maf trying to fix this, be told now it could be FPR related as it's fine if the tank is full)
laquer is bubbling a bit in places.
tax and test till october.
listed it at £1200 but open to offers

Re: 1998 GTi 6
yeah i have coil was first thought, hence the new coil packs, replaced water temp sensors, maf, sparks, coils, checked all the pipes for vac leaks, it's a pain as it runs ok 99% of the time really lost patience for trying bits tho, spent a fair chunk just replacing the bits i have. No error codes in pugplanet, emissions are ok across the rev range just occasionally at low revs when accelerating it shakes a bit
I'd also have expected anything major to get worse over the last few hundred miles but nothing's changed.

Re: 1998 GTi 6
Have swapped some bits over from the other 6 but I know the other one works well, tried swapping the IAT and MAP sensors too. Yeah I changed the fuel filter too, i'd expect most things to throw up a full on fault. If it doesn't sell this week i'll take you for a spin in it, can see how intermittent it is heh.
Re: 1998 GTi 6
Righto then look forward to it, i can compare with mine then when i get it finished.
have u looked at the injecters? not sure what else to point a finger at.

Re: 1998 GTi 6
aye, injectors/lambda is a thought. I did get suggested that it might be timing, but then i'd expect the problem across the board in that case.
Re: 1998 GTi 6
pull out the lambda and clean it with brake cleaner also where do u get your fuel, sainsburys and some other cheap fuels dont get on with lambda's or fuel injection in general.

Re: 1998 GTi 6
not had time to pull out the lambda, plus i'm willing to bet it's well seized in lol. fuel comes from tesco (momentum) or shell, tried both 97 and 99, seems to slightly prefer the 99.
Re: 1998 GTi 6
not sure then mate, we can get it up on the ramp when u come down and we'll take it off that way.

Re: 1998 GTi 6
Bloody thing ,started it yesterday, wouldn't idle properly for a minute or two then ran fine all day
Re: 1998 GTi 6
Probably a bit late, but have you tried running the car with the fuel cap off? The vent for the tank might be blocking up but has enough draw to pull air in on higher revs.
