Re: GTI6 engine conversion
Rather than getting the car up higher, would it be easier to move some of the stones from under the car so you can get lower?
Re: GTI6 engine conversion
thers hardly any stones there its only like 1/2 inch.

Re: GTI6 engine conversion
i did manage to get some time on it tonight and take the front wheels off and get the front on blocks on axle stands. i think this should be high enough now.
so tommorow after work im gonna make a start on trying to get the cat off the exhaust manifold & lamdba sensor off. see how those bolts come off, cant see it being easy tho lol.

Re: GTI6 engine conversion
welli been on the car for well over 2 hours tonight, found the speedo sensor and disconnected that, and the other gear linkage.
then i started to try and get the bolts out the cat/manifold managed to get one out but the other one just aint moving its too seized to the nut so got annoyed with that and left it for now.
so i moved on to the driveshafts. Firstly drained the gearbox oil into a bucket. Then after some more hassle...loosened the retaining nuts on the bolts on the engine mount housing for the driveshaft intermediate bearing that holds the bearing in the housing enough to turn them 180 degrees.
with only being able to do a bit after work once you get started on a particular thing if its a problem then it doesnt seem like much progress, probly have thursday maybe even friday off aswell this week i fink get to make sure its ready to come out saturday morning,

Re: GTI6 engine conversion
been raining all day.
took the nut off the ball joint clamps off and knocked the pinch bolts off. (after i took the wrong nut off which dropped the hub off the suspension strut! and damaged the bolt that is).
got nearly all the allen key head bolts out of the manifold no problem.
ive left it there for today. tommorow will go to work and get two new bolts first thing to replace the damaged ones on the pinch bolt for the suspension strut clamp.
so tommorow list is replace two damaged bolts and seperate the ball joints and pull the hub off the driveshaft both side.
get the remaining exhaust manifold/cat bolt off.
finsish removing manifold
undo gear box bolts underneath
support engine on lift, undo engine mounts and drop the the engine and box to the floor.
remove gearbox
lift engine out.

Re: GTI6 engine conversion
i cut the first turn of the thread off the damaged bolt on the suspension strut clamp and put the nut back on sorted. then got the ball joint apart ok so that side is off.
got the ball joint half out the otherside bit this ones a bit more difficult gonna av another go after a coffee in a minute lol.
ive taken the manifold off (didnt need to take the starter off tho). I removed the bolts on the gearbox underneath.
got the last heater matrix hose off that i got stuck with and left the other day.
i had another go at that manifold/cat bolt and it just wont go theres not enough to get the spanner on the bolt head properly coz its pulling on the head of the bolt too much.
its going not too bad atm just got that one manifold bolt to take off and the other lower ball joint to pop out then take the driveshafts out.
ready to lift then

Re: GTI6 engine conversion
looks like you removed the wrong bolts you got to unbolt it around the bellhousing (where the starter is bolted)
Re: GTI6 engine conversion
its not those large allen key headed bolts is it? coz i havent got a bit that goes dat big.
will the small piece of the box not come off where i started taking the bolts off coz that piece would be enough for it to lift straight out then.
