so i cant just split it where the line is if i take the rest of those bolts out.

its the ones circled on the left i have to remove the large allen head ones.

cant you just remove the manifold coplete then when the engine is out you got room to work on it, or use a socket/box spanner on the bolt head

no room to get a socket there above the bolt ive tried theres hardly any room above the bolt head on the drivers side one, getting the passenger side bolt off wasnt that difficult.

there is room to do it, i do it every 12 months when i put the cat on for mot you cant use a normal spanner as that will prob round the bolt head you need and box spanner or socket

GTI6 engine conversion - Page 3 Gearbox

are these bolts anything to do with the gearbox coz i cant see any others underneath.

GTI6 engine conversion - Page 3 Gearboxshaft

is it the 16mm head bolts i need to take out, to take the lower engine mount complete off.

well hopefully i can get the right allen key tool tommorow in town take those bolts out the gearbox and lift the engine out as i need to get the engine lift back to the garage asap tommorow.

then i gonna clean the engine bay and strip it down a bit sand it back , mask up and spray it.

strip my interior and carpets out and drop the gear leaver etc.

ive got to take a gti6 engine out of a smashed up car down the garage.
new clutch, timing belt kit etc to be fitted onto dat (which i wont do myself i dont think).

then paint the engine up.

Ill be ready to fit the gti6 engine then which i could do with a hand for to make sure it all goes back together right.

im sure simon will fill u in on wot happened to this as he bought it to break it. but it does run fine and even drives.

think it originally belonged to someone off the gti6 oc. then sold on and sold again to some local who crashed it. then simon bought it for breaking.

Main thing is that its a healthy runner. All the loom and stuff would still be intact too. Great for a conversion like your doing Smile

the main loom plugs got pulled out on impact and cut the engine off before it went upside down thus stopping the engine from getting damaged internally.

went into carmarthen to get a set large allen key sockets this morning got back took some of the gear box bolts out until i realised i needed a 8mm aleen key aswell for one of them coz i couldnt get a socket at it, luckily work had one(if i had known dat wldnt have bothered goin into town doh!).

so all 8 bolts out of gearbox, all wiring/sensors disconnected from gearbox box, starter motor removed, lower engine mount bolts removed.

couldnt get a cranked spanner in town anywhere so i still cant get the manifold/cat bolt out, which is all i have left to do.

so its like this now with the main loom and wires wrapped up. ready for lifting. so when i can get a cranked spanner or grinder to take the bolt off the manifold i can borrow the lift againt next weekend and lift it straight out.

so it will stay like this now for a bit.

can you take the manifold off the head? then lift engine/box out you'll have more room to work on that bolt

ive looked at that took two bolts out then went ot the next one and theres no chance of getting the socket or spanner on it theres just no the room from the bolt coz the manifold comes back on it self across all the bolts.

same as on the cat bolt coz above the head of the bolt on the one side the manifold comes straight over the top of it and even a small 1/4" 10mm socket wont fit in the gap. the other side was ok coz the manifold runs away not straight over the bolt head.
